Top Nav / Search

We’ve been experimenting with the positioning of page nav controls, which includes the search bar/results and breadcrumb menus.

The two main directions we’ve tried are: a) similar to Slack (with a persistent search bar and nav controls at the top); and b) similar to Notion (search is done with a ‘Quick Search’ modal, with the nav controls/breadcrumb menu at the top of the page (with Search/Settings moved to the top of the left sidebar)).

Important to note - in both cases, the user can transition from the ‘quick search’ screen to the ‘advanced search’ screen (see below).
